Combining an iconic Kanto Pokémon with an impressive CGC 9.5 Mint+ grade, this Marowak represents a particularly attractive addition to any serious vintage Pokémon collection.
💀 A Classic Pokémon from EX FireRed & LeafGreen
Released in August 2004, EX FireRed & LeafGreen celebrated the original Kanto region, revisiting many of the beloved Pokémon that helped establish the franchise.
Inspired by the Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen video games, the expansion brought together familiar first-generation Pokémon, striking new illustrations, powerful Pokémon-ex cards, and distinctive holographic designs.
Among its memorable holographic cards stands Marowak, the Bone Keeper Pokémon and evolved form of Cubone.
Numbered 7/112, this card presents Marowak wielding its signature bone beneath a dramatic burst of light, surrounded by dark, atmospheric textures and shimmering holographic highlights.
Illustrated by Aya Kusube, the artwork captures Marowak’s fierce determination and distinctive appearance, offering a striking interpretation of one of Pokémon’s most recognisable original-generation creatures.
The contrast between the bright illumination, dark background, and powerful silhouette creates a particularly memorable illustration from the EX era.
✨ The Distinctive EX FireRed & LeafGreen Holographic Design
What makes this particular example especially appealing is its classic EX FireRed & LeafGreen Holo Rare presentation.
Unlike the reverse holographic version, this standard holographic variant features a shimmering reflective finish concentrated within the illustration, enhancing the dramatic visual effects surrounding Marowak.
The combination of intricate artwork and traditional holographic treatment makes this card an excellent representation of early Nintendo-era Pokémon design.
This example showcases several defining characteristics:
- Original EX FireRed & LeafGreen Holographic Finish: Beautiful reflective highlights enhance the dark, atmospheric illustration.
- Aya Kusube Artwork: A dramatic depiction of Marowak wielding its iconic bone beneath a radiant burst of light.
- Classic EX-Era Design: The original yellow border, familiar card layout, and distinctive typography capture the nostalgia of early-2000s Pokémon cards.
- Original Kanto Pokémon: Marowak remains a memorable first-generation Pokémon, recognised for its distinctive appearance and connection to Cubone.
- Nintendo-Era Heritage: Released during the formative years of the Pokémon EX Series, when card artwork and holographic treatments were becoming increasingly elaborate.
The combination of traditional holographic presentation, distinctive artwork, and original-generation nostalgia makes this Marowak an appealing collectible from the EX era.
